Contains ninety-two beautiful colour plates by Honoria Marsh, depicting characters as silhouettes or ‘shades’ from Jane Austen’s books accompanied by synopses and quotations from the novels. The artist used over eighty of her friends and acquaintances as sitters, including some direct descendants of the novelist, dressed in accurate period clothing.
