This tremendously large catalog (688 pages) of the Gilbert Collection of gold and silver records with beautiful photography and illuminating text important works of British, Continental European, American and Indian origin from the late fifteenth to the nineteenth century. The Collection is unique in its range and quality. Although noticeably stronger in some periods than in others, the Gilbert Collection is rich enough to permit a full study of the history goldsmithing. One-hundred and seventy-five objects are examined in the catalog. Published by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the current holder of the collection, each object is photographed and often presented in numerous images. A very good copy.
