Eric Idle was, samen met Chapman, Cleese, Gilliam, Jones en Palin, onderdeel van Monty Python's Flying Circus. Dit was een BBC-televisieprogramma met komische sketches die typerend zijn voor de Britse humor. Daarnaast verscheen hij in veel films, bewerkte hij de Monty Python-boeken en schreef hij romans, waaronder The Road to Mars, Pass the Butler en The Quite Remarkable Adventures of the Owl and the Pussycat. Hij woont in Los Angeles.
