Denys Lasdun

Denys Lasdun is one of the most internationally important architects of his generation. In the 1930s he worked together with Wells and was a member of the architectural group Tecton which was founded by B. Lubetkin. Lasdun's work undoubtedly constitutes one of the most significant discoveries which can still be made on the architectural map of this century. His oeuvre includes residential buildings, university buildings and what is probably his greatest project, the National Theatre in London built in the period 1967-76. Lasdun's architecture is committed to classical modernism and shows how buildings could be empathetically integrated in their surroundings. The first text to introduce Lasdun in German-speaking countries, this monograph represents at the same time a standard work on the history of modern architecture.
