Engelbert

The life, in his own words, of one of the best known, best-selling, globally successful singing heart-throbs of them all: Engelbert Humperdinck. Born Arnold George Dorsey in Madras, India, Engelbert had a long struggle to make his mark in show business. After his first attempts at entertaining while in the army in Germany, after his initial failure as Gerry Dorsey, he found a manager who insisted he change his name, giving him a second shot at fame and finally his breakthrough via an appearance on TV's Sunday Night At The London Palladium. Soon he was working alongside the greats - from The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, to Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jnr. With the trappings of success came greater temptations and Engelbert is honest about how his worldwide career led him into infidelity and a close relationship with the brandy bottle. Happily he has in recent years completely recovered, enjoying a renaissance, criss-crossing the globe entertaining his millions of fans.
