First published in 1984 as 'The Birds of Australia', this fifth edition of the extensively illustrated guide has been expanded and updated. Now includes 20 new colour plates, and many new black and white illustrations as well as redrawn distribution maps. The identification section has been revised to reflect modern classifications and knowledge of the evolutionary relationships of Australia's bird families. Provides information about topics such as bird life cycles, ecology and distribution, as well as hints for bird watchers. Includes a glossary and indexes of scientific and common names. Simpson is a former editor of 'Aurora' and the 'Australian Bird Watcher'. His other publications include 'Birds of Bass Strait.' Day exhibits regularly around Australia.
