Goltzius to Van Gogh

Over the course of his life, the Amsterdam art dealer Piet de Boer (1894-1974) built up an important collection of paintings and drawings, which he decided to house in the P. and N. de Boer Foundation in 1964. This book contains a beautiful selection that shows the breadth of his harvest: from drawings and paintings by Hendrick Goltzius, Jacques de Gheyn and numerous other masters from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries to a small core of works by Vincent van Gogh. His preference was for drawings and paintings with a timeless quality.
A group of art historians are responsible for the texts in this colorful book, which pays tribute to the sense of quality and the great connoisseurship of a collector who has completely gone his own way.
In addition to work by the above-mentioned artists, paintings and drawings by Balthasar van der Ast, Ambrosius Bosschaert, Esaias van de Velde, Hendrick Avercamp, Cornelis van Haarlem, Joachim Wtewael, Roelant Saverij, Abraham Bloemaert, Albert Cuyp, Rembrandt and many others are included. Many are published here for the first time.
