On these pages we embark on a unique journey through time and space, encountering 75 researchers and explorers on the way. We follow all of these intrepid individuals on their travels to eternally icy lands, to the world’s highest peaks, to barren deserts, and through lush rainforests. Some of them are still world famous, while others have been forgotten: pioneering explorers and cartographers, enthusiastic botanists and artists, expert natural scientists and anthropologists, eccentrics and visionaries, men and women, including celebrities such as Cook, Darwin, Merian, Shackleton, and Chatwin, as well as lesser-known names.
