Omschrijving
First French trade edition of Cartier-Bresson's photographic study of the relationship between man and technology, originating in a commission from IBM and first published by IBM World Trade Corporation in 1969. With an introduction by Etiemble and layout by Robert Delpire. An interesting presentation copy, warmly inscribed by Cartier-Bresson on the half-title “à Jan van Broeckhoven / avec l'amitié / d'Henri”. Jan Van Broeckhoven (1944–2024) was a prominent figure in Antwerp cultural life and particularly active in the promotion of photography. He organised his first photographic exhibition at the Antwerp Filmhuis in the 1970s and subsequently founded and coordinated Fotografiecircuit Vlaanderen, which developed into a network of photographic exhibitions throughout Flanders. He was also involved in major Antwerp photography initiatives, including the Zomer van de Fotografie and, later, Antwerpen 93: een stad gefotografeerd. Pasted beneath the inscription is a small vintage photographic print (7.6 × 5 cm), depicting a man beside electronic equipment and directly relating to the subject of the book. A particularly appealing association copy,
