Omschrijving
8vo.
Title within elaborate woodcut border, composed of allegorical figures and incorporating a city view of Florence, woodcut initials and large woodcut device at the end. Quite some rubbing and scuffing to the original leather boards, front inner hinge weakened, but binding intact. Overall a sound and clean copy.
# First edition. 3rd part of this highly important work by Italian painter and architect Vasari (1511-1574) concentrating on the three major arts, architecture, painting and sculpture. It provides invaluable information about famous Renaissance artists, many who would otherwise have remained unknown. Vasari was the first to use the term Renaissance (Rinascita) in print. He expanded his work in a second edition (1568), but this edition remains more informative. The 3rd part contains a.o. the entry on Michelangelo, who was the only living artist Vasari included in this work.
