Omschrijving

Complete collection of all 20 issues of Le Moniteur Universel, better known as Le Moniteur de Gand. This journal was the official organ of the government of Louis XVIII who had taken refuge in Ghent during the Hundred Days of 1815. It was founded and directed by Bertin l'aîné and had as it's principal editors Chateaubriand, Lally-Tollendal, Jaucourt and Beugnot.
The periodical contains news from France and abroad, the progress of the Congress of Vienna, declarations of the King, treaties, diplomatic notes, etc. The first issue appeared on April 14, 1815 and contained two ordinances of Louis XVIII prohibiting the French from paying taxes or obeying the usurper, as well as the manifesto of the European powers against Bonaparte. The last issue appeared two days after Waterloo, June 21, 1815.
