Lee Tanner's Jazz Photographs

Lee Tanner began documenting East Coast jazz sessions about fifty years ago. Down Beat, Jazz Magazine (Paris), and Rolling Stone have published his intimate jazz portraits, which also grace many album and CD covers. Tanner observes of his work (and that of other jazz photographers): "We're snapshooters. We're photographing the moment. That's what the essence of jazz is: the moment." Abbey Lincoln, Art Blakey, Joe Williams, Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Rushing, Gerry Mulligan, and Illinois Jacquet are among the thirty musicians who populate this book of postcards.
