Les entretiens d'Ariste et d'Eugène
Second edition of this important treatise of the French Jesuit Dominique Bouhours (1628-1702). The work consists of six conversations between two friends, presented as models of eloquence. It gives a good picture of salon society in 17th-century Paris, which served as a model for much of the world. The upper class literary public received it very favourably, praising the delicacy and purity of the author's style.
