Omschrijving

Large 4to. With an engraved frontispiece and title, and 35 full-page plates, engraved by Rudolf Rahn and Adrian Schleich after designs by Wilhelm von Kaulbach. Otherwise decorated with 24 wood engraved vignettes. At least one plate from this book (the one opp. p. 42 - showing Tibert attacking a priest's private parts) was later suppressed for moral reasons.

Fine original full polished calf with elaborate gilt design to the front and rear cover and spine, gilt titling to the front, all edges gilt. The extremities a little rubbed, a small split in the head and tail of the spine, mild foxing throughout. Lacks the binder's notice for the plates.
