green, gold and red, the other titled ‘Den Gulden A.B.C. Seer
Bequaem Voor Alle Menschen”, written in blue, black and red &
illuminated with flowers in green, gold & red. Further: 25 very
fine illuminated pages. with birds, flowers, large initials, a lion,
a dragon and animals in blue, green, gold and red. The
manuscript ending: “Zwygt en Bedenkt. Looft De Heer in
Nijmegen, den 30, Mey Anno 1725”. With coat-of-arms of the
town of Nijmegen. Provenance : The library of Gerrit Komrij. In
his handwriting on back of the box: “Diemer van Veerssen.

scribblings/ underlinings. Christian Ludwig Liscow (1701-
1760), considered the first German satirist of the Enlightenment,
who "verlachte mit treffendem Spott die geschmacklose
hochmutige Schulweisheit der Gelehrten, die fanatische
Orthodoxie der Geistlichkeit und die kriechende Schmeichelei der
Furstendiener" (Goed. V,1, p.35), directs this writing against
the theologician and physician Heinrich Jacob Sivers, who had
recently published a somewhat farfetched and rashly published
theory on the supposed existence of musical notes on stones
