The Air War, 1939-1945

THE AIR WAR 1939-45 is a chronological account of the air conflict day by day from all perspectives. Its text is mainly documentary accounts from sources as diverse as the Allied and Axis high commands, press reports from neutral countries, official reports and propaganda documents: these give both the immediacy of contemporary reporting and a broad spectrum of fact and opinion. Every warfront is covered, not only the well-known ones but also such minor theatres as Somaliland and Madagascar. There are over 400 photographs, many of them previously unpublished, and numerous line drawings and maps. For the first time there appears in one volume an appendix of the structure and organisation of the air forces of all 30 combatant nations, plus a chronological list of all major air attacks on Germany. Janusz Piekalkiewicz fought with the Polish underground during the War and with the Hungarian freedom fighters in 1956, and is now an author and broadcaster, widely respected for his indefatigable research in the documentary history of World War 2.
