The castles of Friuli

The picture of the dark Middle-Ages still prevails even though this period falls between the Roman Empire and the discovery of America by Columbus.
In this book the authors have tried to be guided not by prejudices but by historic facts, and have chosen their castles from a region which is generally not associated with knighthood, courtly life and modern castle romanticism.
Especially, the castle at Friuli, between the southern edge of the Alps and the northern edge of the Adriatic and Karstic Slovenian mountains has always been a European corridor connecting East and West as well as South and North.
