The mystic life of Merlin

The mystic Life of Merlin examines in depth the Vita Merlini, a twelfth-century biograph of Merlin that contains a complete system of magical and spiritual development. Much of the material derives from Celtic and classical traditions, founded upon the ancient Mysteries: and yet it contains the seeds of many modern ideas, such as sexual emancipation and what must be the earliest European definition of psychological types and psychic growth. Also embedded within it are a series of visual keys which were the foundation for later images in alchemy and magic, including the Tarot cards.
