Omschrijving
This, the final volume of the 'Visser garniture', is a collection of sixteen essays, each by an authority in his special area, serveral by internationally recognised arms historians. The intention of this collection is to make available to historians and collectors new research in the field of Dutch arms history completed since the 1970's, and to amplify and focus much of the detailed technical information contained in the preceding three volumes of this series. Covering the period from the commencement of the Dutch war for independece from Spanish rule ( the Eighty Years' War) in 1568, the essays take the reader through the development and operation of the Dutch arms trade in its most important centres, the evolution of technical and artistic design, and the gradual decline of both the domestic and foreign arms markets. The portrayal and significance of weaponry in the Dutch 17th Century genre of the cavalry battle is described and analysed, and the essays are illustrated with black and white illustrations.
