Tom Waits by Matt Mahurin

This visually arresting book is the result of a unique collaboration, going back three decades, between the photographer and illustrator Matt Mahurin and the cult musician Tom Waits. Mahurin developed a rapport with the notoriously reclusive Waits while shooting an album cover for him that involved elaborate props and styling. The two have worked hand in hand over many years creating an extended series of portraits that are fantastical, dreamlike, poetic, and occasionally darkin short, very much like Waits's music. The images vary greatlysome are straightahead portraits, others capture Waits in performance, but the majority are richly imagined scenes in which Waits is more actor than subject. The book will include a foreword or introduction by Waits, song lyrics, and an essay by Mahurin on their longtime collaboration.
