Omschrijving
Anthony McCall (London 1946) is considered one of the most important representatives of the avant-garde movements in visual arts and cinema of the 1970s. Through his work, McCall explores the most fundamental elements of cinema: light and projection. His installations are both breathtakingly beautiful and crystal-clearly simple.
His large light projections form space-filling three-dimensional sculptures that are simultaneously ephemeral drawings. Through his work, McCall inspired an entire generation of artists working with film and installation. Following major presentations in important museums worldwide, EYE is now presenting his first exhibition in the Netherlands. In this publication, McCall explains his cinema sculptures in an interview, and his work is placed within both a historical and a contemporary context.
