Otl Aicher was an outstanding personality in modern design.
His work since the fifties, since his period at the now legendary Hochschule fur Gestaltung in Ulm, of which he was a co-founder, in the field of corporate design - one only needs to remember his images for Lufthansa and the second German television channel - are major achievements in the visual culture of our times. An integral component of Aicher's work is that it us anchored in a "philosphy of making" inspired by thinkers like Ockham, Kant or Wittgenstein, a philosphy concerned with the prerequisites and aims, the objects and claims, of design. Aicher's theoretical and practical writings on design (which include all other aspects of visual creativity, such as architecture, for example) are available complete here for the first time.
