Astrocita

This bilingual book of science is for all the children of the world, especially those with curious, searching, inquisitive minds who ask questions. It is dedicated to them in the hopes of sowing in their minds an interest in science and a respect for knowledge. All children, if provided an environment conducive to learning, will develop a passion for reading and will have a creative spirit, soaring imagination and an interest for the vast richness of knowledge. Astrocita, the main character, protagonist, and narrator, is a cell who was born from the network of small, star-shaped support cells in the brain, called astrocytes. She tells stories about the most basic bodily functions. The book also includes practical and simple activities, and a glossary to help children increase their vocabulary. The stories were reviewed and enriched by children who read the text and did the activities. The author, a retired Mexican medical doctor, is a lover of science and the written word.
