Peter Liddle and Hugh Cecil have gathered essays by the world's foremost historians of World War I to examine the impact of the Armistice on all the participants. Letters, diaries and contemporary newspapers have been studied to present the world as it was on November 11, 1918.In addition to the major powers, there are also descriptions of the end of the war for Japan, Belgium, India, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Italy, and the various parts of the British Commonwealth. In addition to much new information, several of the authors also challenge some widely held assumptions about the end of the war and the transition to the post-war world.
