Disappearing Nightly

Esther Diamond isn't a heroine, she just plays one in an off-off-Broadway play. She also plays psychotics, vamps, hookers, housewives, and-on one occasion-a singing rutabaga. It was never Esther's ambition to play a musical vegetable, but her agent says, there are more actors in New York than there are people in most other cities. Translation: Beggars can't be choosers. This explains how Esther wound up painting her body green and prancing around stage half-naked the night Golly Gee-the female lead in the off-Broadway show Sorcerer!-vanished into thin air. Literally. Now the producers want Esther to take over Golly's role...even as other female performers start disappearing nightly, and a mysterious stranger is warning her: There is Evil among us. Before long, Esther realizes she's going to need a little offbeat magical help if she doesn't want to disappear, too.
