Omschrijving

Between 2002 and 2006 Dutch landscape photographer Jan Koster systematically photographed the Dutch coast: the dunes, the sea, the dikes. The end result of his lengthy forays along the Dutch coast, in search of suitable locations is this beautiful series of photographs entitled Dutchscapes.

Jan Koster (1959) was born in Kampen, but lives and works in Amsterdam. He studied History at the University of Amsterdam, and Photographic Design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Jan Koster has acquired a reputation through his photographs of the Dutch river landscape.
His work was repeatedly exhibited at Gallery Michael Janssen in Germany (1996, 1998, 2001), Gallery Modulo in Portugal (2000, 2001), and Gallery Paul Andriesse in the Netherlands (1999). In addition to various galleries, Jan Kosters work was also on view in Museum De Commanderie van Sint Jan (1995), Fries Museum (2000), the Brandenburger Kunstsammlungen (2001), and Museum Kunst Palast (2005).
His work was also presented in less conventional spaces such as the AMC/Amsterdam Academic Medical Centre (2004, 2005, 2009), the Sadler´s Wells Theatre (2007), the architectural firm SeARCH (2007), DNB The Dutch Bank (2006, 2009), and the European Central Bank (2008). The work was also included in the touring group exhibitions Insight-Out (1999), and The Sleep of Reason (2000).
Under the name of Dutchscapes, the photographs of the Dutch coast, which followed the ones of the river landscapes, were put on display at Gallery Paul Andriesse (2003), Foam (2004), Stedelijk Museum/Municipal Museum Amsterdam (2003), MuseumgoudA (2006), Het Nederlands Fotomuseum (The Netherlands Museum for Photography) (2007), and the Goethe Institut (2009).
In the past decade, the photos of the coastal and river landscapes were regularly shown at major art fairs in Europe such as Art Cologne, Art Basel, and Arco Madrid. At these art fairs, many works were purchased for the private collections of Joop van Caldenborgh, Anita Zabludowicz, the Rubell Family and others as well as for the corporate collections of ABN AMRO Bank, Axa Versicherung, and Metropolitan Bank & Trust.
