Omschrijving
Without a doubt, theories of modern physics are extremely successful. Yet, despite these successes, the incompatibility of general relativity and quantum theory has divided the physics community into two camps. Both, however, share the unshakable belief that gravity is exclusively attractive. It is precisely this fundamental assumption that is challenged in this work: over 29 years of fascination with repulsive gravity have brought the author, Marcoen J.T.F. Cabbolet, to the final edition of his dissertation, methodologically structured after Descartes’ Meditations. The destructive phase deconstructs the current consensus, challenging deeply entrenched beliefs regarding the experimental status and adequacy of modern quantum physics. The foundational phase introduces a new formal language for physics to develop Elementary Process Theory (EPT). It replaces the traditional three-dimensionalistic world view in terms of particles—objects that go through time—and interactions with a four-dimensionalistic world view in terms of occurrents—objects that are spread out in time—and discrete transitions. The constructive phase unites gravity with electromagnetism in the framework of EPT: it delivers a relativistic model of a gravito-electromagnetic interaction predicting repulsive gravity. The author demonstrates that under suitable conditions, this model recovers the empirical successes of special relativity and classical theories of gravity and electromagnetism. A distinctive feature of this monograph is the inclusion of “Objections and Replies” at the end of each chapter. These sections provide a rigorous, transparent analysis of the often pseudoskeptical counterarguments encountered over three decades, offering a unique historical record of the resistance to research in the foundations of physics that challenges the mainstream.
