This beautiful and informative volume, inspired by thepioneering 1904 A&C Black book "Familiar", offers a newway of looking at the sights and social history of a much-loved city. The introduction is written by Mary AnneEvans, well-known "London" author and compiler of themonthly "Where London" magazine. Every painting from theoriginal book has been rescanned and enlarged, presentingthem as they have not been seen for a hundred years.Opposite each painting is a page containing full-colourimages relating to the painting, from period maps andpostcards to paintings and railway tickets, together witha text placing the painting in its contemporary context.
