Frank Kupka

Created around 1930 by the Czech pioneer of abstract art, Frank Kupka (1871-1957), the 12 gouaches in Abstractions are among the most radical simplifications found in constructive art of the 20th century; while the woodcuts of Four Stories of White and Black (1926) were described by the artist in his accompanying manifesto as 'figures from another reality'. Both albums are reproduced in facsimile here, along with an essay by Arnauld Pierre and a selection of Kupka's letters.
