From Middle England

A childhood and adolescence recalled with sharply observed and poignant detail in this acclaimed autobiography.

Philip Oakes, poet, novelist, scriptwriter and critic, was born in the heart of the Potteries and grew up in straitened circumstances. His poet's eye and novelist's narrative skill have made the story of an awakening from a Dickensian childhood at once hilarious, moving and intensely readable.
