Gerard Malanga

Gerard Malanga's keen eye and sensibility embody this singular portrait of the 1970s. A cofounder with Andy Warhol of Interview magazine in 1969, Malanga has a vision that is psychologically intense; it cuts to the inner core of his subjects in a portrait style that is revealing and never artificial. Malanga's photographs capture the diversity of artistic and intellectual life of this period: Robert Mapplethorpe, Jasper Johns, George Plimpton, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Abbie Hoffman, Candy Darling, Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Durrell, Roman Polanski, and William Burroughs, to name just a few of those portrayed.
