The images in this book are from three different Harlem projects begun by Aaron Siskind during the 1930s. The earliest of these inforrmal, open-ended series dates from after Sisking joined the Photo League in 1932, others were made during his participation with the League's Feature Group, and some are from the "Most Crowded Blck" project of 1939, 1940
