Hiroshima

First edition. Domon advocated the “absolutely unstaged snapshot” and championed the „objective‟, social realist photography that became so popular in Japan in the late 1940s and early 1950s. With his direct, unflinching approach, he was the first to undertake a major project on Hiroshima. The series was published in a 1958 book, Hiroshima (Tokyo: Kenko-sha), which deals with the physical destruction of the city, but focuses mainly on the lives of the Hibakusha (the atomic bomb survivors).
