First edition of the first five parts (of 8) of the "Gottfriedsche Chronik", an extensive world history by Johann Philip Abelin (1600-1634). Nicely illustrated by Matthäus Merian: 5 engraved titles, more than 200 half-page plates showing historical, biblical and legendary scenes and 22 numismatic plates, each showing 12 medaillons with historical figures. Parts 1-5 (complete in itself) are the histories of Assyrians and Babylonians, Medes and Persians, Greeks, Romans and Middle Ages until 1000.
