First edition of this seminal work of Surrealist erotic literature, published anonymously and clandestinely in 1928 by René Bonnel, with the collaboration of Pascal Pia. The text forms part of Aragon’s unfinished and largely destroyed novel ‘La Défense de l’infini’ and was published without the names of author, publisher or illustrator. One of 125 copies on vergé d’Arches, numbered 11–135; in the present copy ‘Arches’ is correctly printed in the justification.
