As civil war looms in Oz, an ancient and tetchy oracle named Yackle prepares for death.

Before she can return to dust, however, the Cowardly Lion arrives seeking information about Elphaba Thropp, who defended him when he was a cub. Elphaba, the woman who became the Wicked Witch of the West.

But Yackle, who once predicted the Witch's greatness, demands some answers of her own.
