Merton & Hesychasm

Thomas Merton, a member of one of Catholicism's strictest monastic orders, was intensely interested in the traditions of the Christian East. He studied and published extensively on Greek and Russian Orthodox traditions and his writing on Hesychasm, the practices surrounding the Prayer of Jesus, are of particular contemporary importance. Merton's commentary is accompanied by essays by scholars in the fields of Eastern Christianity and Merton studies.
