As a rule, prosecutor Ben Kaplan, chief of the Major Crimes unit in the US Attorney's office in New York, has a clear idea of where his loyalties lie. But when a small-time fraud in his jurisdiction escalates into a front-page sensation, his life isn’t so easy. The case opens as a credit-card scam by a group of orthodox Jews, but when a hard-ass agent embarks on a late-night raid, shots are fired and a Jewish vigilante ends up in a coma.
