Nutritional Influences on Illness

Abstract: A reference text for clinical nutritionists and other health care professionals covers the major illnesses for which a reasonable amount of nutritional literature exists, addressing illnesses and the effects of nutrients, toxics, and environmental sensitivities. In each area, statements are provided on nutrient deficiencies, therapies, and counterindications concerning relevant nutrients, followed by selected literature abstracts which either substantiate or refute each statement. Randomized, double-blind controlled studies, epidemiological studies, uncontrolled studies, and animal experiments are included where relevant. The 92 illnesses covered range from acne, alcoholism, allergy, and atherosclerosis, through cancer, celiac disease, diabetes, gallbladder disease, and obesity, to premenstrual syndrome, theumatism, ulcerative colitis, vascular fragility, and wound healing. Ancillary information on nutritional supplementation, nutritional evaluation, deficiences, and related topics is provided in 6 appendices.
