Owning-up

To 'own-up' in the jazz world means to tell the truth. This is what George Melly has tried to do. For twelve years he livd as a professional singer with a traditional jazz band. He learned how to cope with reality, met a huge number of people of extreme eccentricity and many adventures. His account of these years is violent, erotic, humorous and sad. He hopes this is a funny book, but also, as the period stretches from the age of austerity to the age of affluence, that it may provide within the microcosm of the band-wagon, a picture of a changing society.
