Paul Almasy

Almasy's photographic work consists of two great temporal and formal periods: the early works, which cover the span from the mid-30s to the mid-40s, and the main body of his work thereafter. Between these periods, before and after the end of WWW II, there is an important change of technique in his work, from 35 mm camera to the middle format, as well as a dramatic change in themes. The early work, impressively presented here for the first time, depicts the privileged perspective of the European. His subsequent work, however, depicts a world busily reorganizing itself. This volume focuses on his early work, and, through a rigorous study of his novice efforts, hopes to offer insights into the kind of artist Almasy became in later years.
