Rebels, Pretenders & Imposters

Throughout history many individuals have dreamed of becoming a king, queen, or president; some achieved success but the great majority were pure fanatasists. However, both types took themselves very seriously and often produced coins, banknotes, stamps, and heraldic devices as proof of their status. From ancient to modern times, from the Far East to the New World, this book examines amazing examples of would-be kings, caliphs, emperors, and rebel leaders.Beginning with the most famous example in history, Adam and Eve's rebellion in the Garden of Eden, Rebels, Pretenders and Imposters also looks at Zeus, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Bonnie Prince Charlie (the Young Pretender) among others. It is an idiosyncratic and fascinating look at history.
