Spacematrix introduces urban density as a tool for urban development and design. Berghauser Pont and Haupt unravel image-based terms such as 'urbanity,' 'compact city,' and 'park city' by questioning the reliability of such concepts and critically examining whether it is possible to redefine them using the concept of density. The authors' interest in density is not primarily normative.
