Stargazing

Author's account of working as a relief lighthouse keeper in the 1970s. Peter Hill was a 19-year-old art student when he answered an ad seeking relief lighthouse keepers. Within a month he was living with three strangers in a lighthouse on a remote island off the west coast of Scotland. Explores the cultural richness of the early 1970s, and the social values symbolised in the romantic and solid image of the lighthouse. Author is an art critic and has written for several publications including the 'Sydney Morning Herald' and the 'London Review of Books'. He was also the founder of arts magazine 'Alba'.
