The Bishop Must Die

1326: Queen Isabella refuses to leave France and further humiliates her husband, King Edward II, by flaunting her adulterous relationship with his enemy Sir Roger Mortimer. She has betrothed their son to the daughter of a French count which infuriates the King. The King suspects rebellion and his reign begins to disintegrate. Sir Baldwin de Furnshill, Keeper of the King's Peace, and the King's knights are summoned to London to protect the country from invasion. The Treasurer of England, Bishop Stapledon, is under threat from one of the many enemies he has made, and Baldwin and Simon try to find the would-be assassin before he strikes.
