The Dream Mistress

Mimi, a fashionable but withdrawn woman, takes pity on a bag lady at the back of the cinema. In hospital, nurses name the old woman Bella and as they peel away layers of her clothing, so the layers of her life are narrated and we find that she is Mimi's mother, whose alienation led to destitution.
