The Ecloques and Georgics

This edition of the Eclogues and the Georgics has the same aims as my commentary on the Aeneid in the same series (Aeneid 1-6, 1972; Aeneid 7-12, 1973). It is intended to be suitable for the upper forms of schools and for universities, and I hope that it will also be useful for more advanced scholars. Within a relatively concise format I have tried to interpret the poetic intentions and impact of the Eclogues and the Georgics without neglecting grammatical explanations of the diction, an aid more than ever necessary in modern times. -- Preface.
