Finlay Reid, a 33-year-old Scottish homicide detective, unexpectedly acquires the ’gift’ to access someone’s thoughts and memories. An ability meant to help a Halfway, a deceased person still wandering the earth, move on. When he is given the investigation into the brutal murder of an English scientist he stubbornly ignores this unwelcome gift as much as he can. The scientist’s wife, Robyn Ashton, is his main suspect but their first meeting turns out very differently than he expected. During the investigation, he is confronted by Damier, a criminal and murderer, who is not hindered by the fact that he is dead.
