During the summer of 1986, Sacramento, California police investigated the murders of several young women who had been sexually assaulted and strangled to death. The victims's bodies were discovered scattered across several counties, and jurisdictional complications arose as each new department became involved. Kay Maulsby, the newest homicide detective in Sacramento assigned to the case, focused on Roger Kibbe as a suspect. Everything about his personal life and behavior fit the profile, but there was no solid evidence against him. With the help of a forensic expert, Maulsby was able to compile the necessary proof to put a murderer behind bars forever.
