Voyage

The plot of this opus by Yûichi Yokoyama is as linear as it is clear: Voyage is the long, silent, and crystalline description of a railway journey undertaken by three men. The subject embraced by Yokoyama is less this train journey (the distances covered, the territory covered...) than a journey on the train. A journey within a journey. As soon as the train leaves, in fact, the characters begin to cross the convoy. The characters are then confronted with the architecture and the layout of the machine. Above all, they are confronted with the looks and bodies of other passengers: on the train we observe each other, we pass each other, we watch each other pass, we embarrass each other, we sometimes meet. So much so that this Journey consists first of all, consists above all of crossing faces. A succession of portraits with at the end perhaps, at the very end, but only at the end, the promise of the landscape.
